[How To] DIY keyboard - Part 1: Build your individual solution

There’s no doubt about it: a truly unique, individual mechanical keyboard is the dream of many users. But a custom-made keyboard usually requires a lot of modding, tuning, or even building it yourself. This may sound difficult, time-consuming and expensive at first, but it actually opens up countless possibilities for designing your own ‘dream keyboard’. With this article we would like to start a “How To”-series and show you how easy it is build your own custom keyboard.

Mechanical keyboards are standard equipment for professional gamers, but these days they’re also very popular with home gamers. There a many products available in the market which mainly differ in feature set. But if you want to own a custom-made keyboard in a specific format, it’s usually better to build this keyboard yourself: you get to decide on the chassis size, switch type, key caps and even the materials. There are almost no limits to your creativity. We do realize that many beginners might not know how to get started, which is why we have created this easy-to-understand series of articles. At the end of the day, this series aims to be a tutorial for everyone on how to easily construct your own dream keyboard.

In the first video we will discuss why it makes sense to build your own custom keyboard.

The second part of the series will discuss the necessary preparations: we will answer questions about the tools you’ll need and tell you how to choose the right components for your individual keyboard.
